HPC² Academic Department AffiliationsThe Centers comprising the HPC² operate with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students from various academic disciplines, along with a core of full-time researchers, all in a single research environment. This has created strong cross-disciplinary interaction among the faculty and students, so that the multi-disciplinary approach naturally encouraged and enabled by high bandwidth connection is now firmly established as a fundamental mode of operation in the HPC² and as an accepted mode by the academic departments and the University. The HPC² involves faculty from academic departments in the College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. These faculty are engaged in cross-disciplinary research in the HPC², but remain members of their respective academic departments. Many faculty divide time between offices in the HPC² and in their respective academic departments, and strong emphasis is placed simultaneously on cross-disciplinary interaction and in sustaining the academic departments. Graduate instruction and research by students associated with the HPC² is highly multidisciplinary, with considerable interaction among students from different degree areas on a daily basis, facilitated by a multidisciplinary arrangement of graduate student offices in the HPC² environment.
