Mississippi State One of 9 Finalists for a New NSF Engineering Research Center
Mississippi State is one of 9 finalists for a new National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center. Word was received yesterday that we have been approved for a site visit to occur later this year (sometime in November or December).
The competitions for these Engineering Research Centers is very intense. The pre-proposal stage had well over 110 preproposals (MSU was involved with 2 submissions at this round of competition), which was narrowed to about 20 semi-finalists who submitted full proposals. This has been further narrowed to 9 finalists who will be visited by a team from the National Science Foundation, and the Mississippi State - Northwestern University - Tuskegee University NSF proposal was selected for this round of competition. The National Science Foundation believes that it may fund 4 or 5 new Engineering Research Centers out of the 9 finalists. Winning another NSF ERC would place Mississippi State among a very elite group of research universities who have successfully competed and won two of these centers.
Thanks to Dr. Mark Horstemeyer and his team on their proposal efforts, and wish them the best of success as they move into the final round of competition.
