Service is an integral component of the mission of Mississippi State University. The HPC² member centers and institutes provide research-based information and service to industry, government researchers, and the people of Mississippi in the areas of manufacturing, geospatial technologies, water resources, weapons development, and warfighting support.

Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems
The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) Extension focuses on the needs of Nissan and its tier-1 suppliers and, at the same time, is engaged with other Mississippi manufacturers, large to small. While the fundamental philosophy of the work of CAVS Extension is to transfer technologies developed through CAVS R&D to these manufacturers, two major challenges are involved: first, to make these technologies accessible to the large number (>2000) of small to medium size manufacturers in Mississippi and second, to "scale" the technologies (solutions) to be effective for the smaller manufacturer. The technologies developed through CAVS R&D are not limited to the automotive industry, but are reusable in other industrial sectors. CAVS Extension is also engaged with other Mississippi manufacturers such as Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Mueller Industries, Flexible Flyer, Dews Foundry, Hewlett Industries, Baxter, Remy Reman, and Balkamp. By providing advanced engineering methods to Nissan, its tier-1 suppliers, and other Mississippi manufacturers, CAVS Extension will play a major role in increasing competitiveness and providing more jobs for Mississippians.

Geosystem Research Institute
The workforce development thrust area of the Geosystem Research Institute provides leadership in three areas. The first area includes development of opportunities for students enrolled in multi-disciplinary programs involving remote sensing at MSU. The second area focuses on the needs of new and existing companies within Mississippi with the ability to reach regional and national needs additionally. The final area of focus is on communication and production of training opportunities for students and professionals in the state. The workforce development group works with staff in other areas of the GRI to provide current and relevant knowledge through Institute links and partnerships. The GRI provides individuals and organizations with an opportunity to use space-based technology for development of their own information products. These partnerships will be used to conduct joint research, development, and testing programs emphasizing advanced remote sensing.
