One of the most monumental tasks of the entire installation process was simply
getting everything out of the boxes. Each person took a specific unpacking task.
In the photo above, Vince is opening the boxes the systems came in.
Many other components were boxed separately. Leroy, Joey, Allen and Vince were
joined by IBM salesmen Norm Snyder and Jay Bonanno (nearest the camera) in
the unboxing process. As in the previous installation phase, circumstances
were such that we agreed to let IBM ship us the systems with the second processor,
memory, and disks boxed separately in order for us to meet deadlines. Norm and
Jay volunteered to come on-site and help us assemble the systems.
In this photo, Vince is installing the retainer clip for the heatsink on the
second processor.
Don't let them fool you, Jay and Norm were a lot of help despite being salesmen!
After a couple of days of work, the hidden engineer in them began to show through.
In this photo, Jay is installing the second processor while Norm puts the top
back on a finished unit.
Allen poses for the camera with the first 162 assembled units. As we assembled
the units, we stacked them in stacks of 16. We layed the cardboard pieces
across the completed stacks so that we wouldn't accidently put too many systems
on a stack.
