Visible in this photo are the backs of some of the IBM racks and the SGI racks.
We added fans to the backs of the SGI racks in an attempt to help draw more cool
air through the racks.
This rack contains one of the head nodes (an SGI 1200), the flat-panel monitor
and keyboard that is used for console access to the systems, and the Extreme 7i
Gigabit ethernet switch that connects the racks together.
Each rack contains its own ethernet switch. We use 100Mb/s ethernet from each
node to the switch in each rack, and then Gigabit ethernet to connect each switch
together. We are currently using Extreme 48si switches like the one above.
This is a close-up of the back of one of the new IBM racks. The power is on the
left, the gray ethernet cables run across the backs of the machines to the right.
The the heavy black cables with the white ends that are connected between
the systems is the C2T cable that allows the system consoles to be daisy-chained.
The red cables are the beginning of the RS485-based systems management network.
This hadn't been fully implemented at the time of this photo.
