The Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium Announces the 2019 NOAA Coastal Management/Digital Coast Fellowship Competition

SeaSuccessful candidates of this program will benefit from on-the-job training for two years with a state coastal resource agency project.

Host agencies this year include:
  • Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program (Two Harbors, MN)
  • New Hampshire Coastal Program (Portsmouth, NH)
  • New Jersey Coastal Management Program (Trenton, NJ)
  • New York State Coastal Management Program (Albany, NY)
  • Oregon Coastal Management Program (Portland, OR)
  • Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (Madison, WI)

The announcement flyer provides application guidance, eligibility requirements, a detailed list of the state projects and project placement, and salary/benefits information. The fellowship would start August 2019. More information can also be found at coast.noaa.gov.

Applications will include:
  1. 2-page, 12-point font CV or resume,
  2. goal statement (500 words),
  3. two letters of recommendation, and
  4. undergraduate and graduate student transcripts.

SEAGRANTThese items should be emailed to Loretta Leist at loretta.leist@usm.edu. Potential candidates are required to contact Loretta for more detailed application instructions such as file formats needed. The deadline for sending in your materials to the Sea Grant office is January 19, 2019.

A letter of endorsement from the sponsoring Sea Grant program director (LaDon Swann in MS or AL) is needed in order to complete your application. An interview with Dr. Swann will be scheduled after your application materials are received. Students from states other than Mississippi or Alabama should contact their local Sea Grant program for alternate instructions.
