Biography
I was born in Lebanon where I obtained my B.S. from Saint Joseph University.
In order to continue my education I moved to Italy where I got DSPU (Diplôme de Spécialisation Post Universitaire) and M.Sc. degrees in Plant Virology from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (Istituto Agronomico Mediterraneo di Bari).
I obtained a Ph.D. degree in Plant Virology from the University of Bari (Italy) working on molecular characterization of grapevine viruses.
After a year-long of post-doc experience at the University of Bari, I joined the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (MAI-B), one of the four sister-institutes belonging to the \"Centre International des Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Méditerranéennes\" (CIHEAM) - an International organization with headquarters in Paris, France.
During my tenure at MAI-B, I carried out research on viruses and viroids of grapevines, citrus, olives and stone fruits and co-advised several graduate students during their M.Sc. projects.
Upon moving to the United States, I worked at the Department of Plant Pathology/Foundation Plant Services of the University of California, Davis.
Currently, I am an Assistant Research Professor at the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing and Biotechnology with a research focusing on plant viruses and viroids as well as on mycoviruses.
Results of my research have been documented in nearly 50 refereed publications and book chapters, as well as presented at numerous National and International Conferences (detailed list of refereed publications upcoming).
I speak fluently Italian, French, Arabic and English.
